THE SACRISTIES AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH
To the south of the sanctuary is the pastor’s sacristy. It is for the private use of the pastor for robing, and for the final few minutes for personal devotion and to center his thoughts on the service before entering the chancel. After he enters the sacristy he should not be disturbed except under very urgent or serious circumstances.
To the north of the sanctuary is the altar sacristy. It contains the sacred vessels and elements used for communion, and it is the place where the supplies and extras of the altar are kept. This room is used by the acolyte, the assisting deacons at communion, and by others duly appointed for the care of the communion vessels and other sanctuary appointments and chancel equipment. Reverence for holy things constitutes the proper decorum.
